When we look back at the decisions that define us at Incognito Acquisitions, most of them started with us saying "Fine, we'll do it ourselves..."
Choosing Matbock Skins as our sole wrap material was one of those decisions. It wasn't a procurement process, it wasn't a competitive analysis, it was half a decade of unintentional field testing, followed by the obvious conclusion: We will not compromise performance for a pattern, or capability for cost. In the above photo we have two of our personal units, a PVS-31A on the bottom, with a 7 year old Matbock wrap, and an Argus 1431 variant on the top freshly wrapped with the exact same material, just in our design.
It Started With Someone Else's Wrap
When we first got into night vision, we didn't wade in carefully. We bought a set of used PVS-31A's from a previous owner who happened to leave a Matbock wrap on them. We didn't think much of it at the time.
That wrap came with us everywhere those nods did.
Night hog and predator hunts, humid forests, arid deserts, coastal environments. Exercises with multiple units across the U.S. military. All across the country, across conditions most materials aren't designed to handle — and the wrap held up. Not just survived, held up. When we eventually stacked it against other wraps using different materials, it wasn't particularly close.
The material that had been living on someone else's nods before we even bought them was still outperforming our expectations.
That tells you something.
So Why Matbock Skins Specifically?
Before we get into it — Matbock Skins is Matbock's Ghost Lite material laminated to a high quality adhesive backing. It's the same near-IR compliant, field-proven fabric, purpose-built for application directly to your devices.
Because wraps aren't just cosmetic. Under IR observation, a lot of materials that look perfectly fine in daylight become a liability — reflecting differently than surrounding surfaces, or shining under active IR interrogation. Some wraps don't reduce signature at all. Some make it worse.
Matbock Skins were built with this problem in mind from the start:
- Near-IR compliant — reduced detectability under IR
- Swift thermal conductivity — minimizes thermal buildup and signature
- High abrasion resistance — holds up under real use, not just display
- Hydrophobic — performs wet, dries fast
- Decontamination-ready — built for environments where that matters
- Weight: 6 oz/yd² (240 g/m²)
- Failure Strength: 264 lbf/in (46 N/25mm)
- Slit Tear Strength: 110 lbf (489 N)
And yes — it's adhesive backed. Which means it conforms, stays put, and doesn't introduce bulk or IR anomalies from layering.
Which also means we're sticking with it.
What We Looked For, and What We Found
We started Incognito Acquisitions because we couldn't find anyone else making wraps for our favorite devices, out of our favorite materials. We aren't interested in building something that looked good in photos. We needed something with a track record.
Matbock Skins had ours.
We struck a deal with Matbock to use their material, laser-cut on our equipment. While it's not the cheapest path, we believe it's the correct one.
A Note on Patterns and Colors
One thing worth being upfront about — we don't control the patterns and colorways that Matbock offers on their Skins material. That decision sits with them, and producing custom patterns or colors at our scale would require an investment that isn't realistic right now and frankly isn't where our focus is.
We chose this material because it performs, not because it comes in the pattern you wanted. If the colorway isn't your first choice, we understand. But we'd rather offer you something that actually reduces your signature than something that matches your kit and glows under IR.
Function first. Always.
The Standard We're Holding Ourselves To
Function first. Reduce reflected lux before anything else. Look good second — but don't ignore it, because looking cool is half the battle.
Matbock Skins let us do both without compromise. Near-IR compliant materials that perform across spectrums, precision cut for the devices we support, built to go where those devices go.
If it's on an Incognito wrap, it's Matbock Skins. That's not changing.
Low Visibility, High Standards.
